Love milk chocolate but prefer plant-based options? We’ve got you covered! Check out our guide to making delicious oat milk chocolate at home. This simple step-by-step blog post will show you how to blend the rich taste of chocolate with the creamy goodness of oat milk.  If you are dairy intolerant, this article is for you.

What is chocolate with oat milk?

Chocolate with oat milk is a chocolate mixture made using oat milk instead of traditional dairy milk. This dairy-free alternative provides a creamy texture like traditional milk chocolate and a unique flavor profile, making it a popular choice for those who are lactose intolerant, vegan, or simply prefer plant-based options.

What is oat milk?

Oat milk is a plant-based milk alternative made from whole oat grains and water. It has gained popularity in recent years as a dairy-free, vegan-friendly option for those who are lactose intolerant, allergic to nuts, or simply looking to reduce their consumption of animal products.

How is oat milk made?

The process of making oat milk involves soaking whole oat grains in water, blending them, and then straining the mixture to separate the oat milk from the oat pulp. Some commercial varieties may also include additional ingredients like salt, sweeteners, and emulsifiers for flavor and texture enhancement.

Nutritional benefits of oat milk

Oat milk is naturally free of lactose, nuts, and soy, making it a versatile option for people with various dietary restrictions. It is also cholesterol-free and contains beta-glucans, a type of soluble fiber that may help lower cholesterol levels and promote heart health.

Making oat milk chocolate with CocoTerra

One of the standout features of CocoTerra is its ability to cater to various dietary preferences and health needs, particularly those seeking dairy-free options like oat milk.  CocoTerra can make a fresh batch of vegan milk chocolate using oat milk powder as a dairy substitute.  It’s important to recognize that when making milk chocolate using oat milk, there is significantly less fat being contributed by the oat milk powder.  A standard milk chocolate recipe will have to be modified with the addition of cocoa butter to compensate for the lower fat content.  Otherwise, the chocolate may be too thick or viscous and not process properly.

Whether you’re vegan, gluten-free, sugar-free, or have other dietary requirements like keto or paleo, CocoTerra allows you to customize your chocolate accordingly. You can even incorporate health supplements such as protein powders or protein puffs to create your own chocolate power bar.

With a range of health-conscious recipes available and the option to craft your own, CocoTerra empowers you to enjoy chocolate that aligns perfectly with your dietary needs.

If you don’t have CocoTerra in your kitchen, here’s a quick and easy alternative to make oat milk chocolate:

Quick oat milk chocolate bar recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup oat milk
  • 1/4 cup cocoa butter or coconut oil
  • 1/4 cup sweetener (e.g. maple syrup)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla (powder or extract)
  • A pinch of salt (optional)
  • Nuts or dried fruits (optional)

Method:

  1. In a heatproof bowl, melt the cocoa butter or coconut oil using a double boiler or in short bursts in a microwave.
  2. Once melted, stir in the sweetener and oat milk until they are well combined.
  3. Gradually add the cocoa powder to the mixture, whisking continuously to avoid lumps.
  4. Stir in the vanilla and a pinch of salt, along with any optional flavorings like nuts or dried fruits.
  5. Carefully pour the chocolate mixture into the prepared mold, filling each to the top.
  6. Place the mold in the refrigerator and allow the chocolate bars to set for at least 30 minutes, or until firm.
  7. Once set, remove the chocolate bars from the mold and enjoy your homemade dairy-free oat milk chocolate!

Because this recipe contains water from the oat milk (unlike chocolate made with milk powder), make sure to store any leftover chocolate in an airtight container in the refrigerator.  It should stay fresh for up to two weeks.
