How to repurpose store bought chocolate

You can repurpose store-bought chocolate in many amazing ways to reduce waste and make delicious treats. For instance, you can melt it to create other chocolatey treats, add it to baked goods, or use it as a topping or filling for different dishes. And if you think your chocolate is moldy and needs to be thrown away, just wait and read up since it might have just lost its temper.

Let’s get creative and have fun in the kitchen! Repurposing store-bought chocolate involves discovering innovative ways to use it beyond its intended purpose.

5 Creative and delicious ideas for using leftover chocolate

Chocolate Bark

Melt your extra chocolate (and don’t be afraid to mix everything that you have together) and make sure that it is tempered.  Spread it thinly on parchment paper on a baking sheet. While the chocolate is still melted, add your favorite toppings like nuts, dried fruits, or pretzel pieces. Let it cool until it hardens, then break it into pieces for a delicious snack.

Chocolate Fondue

Melt your extra chocolate with some hot cream or milk and mix until it’s smooth and silky. Pour your chocolate fondue into a fondue pot and serve it with a variety of dipping options like strawberries, bananas, marshmallows, or pound cake.

Chocolate Truffles

Mix your leftover chocolate with heavy cream to create a ganache. Once chilled and firm, roll the ganache into small balls and coat them with cocoa powder, shredded coconut, or even better, try our delicious Dark Chocolate Truffles with pistachios and orange zest—they’re absolutely delicious!

Chocolate-Hazelnut Spread

To prepare chocolate-hazelnut spread using leftover chocolate, begin by roasting hazelnuts in the oven until they achieve a golden brown hue. Once roasted, remove the hazelnuts and rub off their skins. Next, blend the roasted hazelnuts until they form a smooth paste. Finally, mix this hazelnut paste with your melted leftover chocolate. For a more detailed recipe, you can find it in our Chocolate-Hazelnut Spread post.

Chocolate-Covered Pretzels

To make Chocolate-Covered Pretzels with leftover chocolate, simply melt the chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl or using a double boiler until smooth.  Ensure that your chocolate is in temper.  Then, dip the pretzels into the melted chocolate. You can fully coat the pretzels or just dip a part.  Place the chocolate-covered pretzels on a parchment-lined baking sheet and allow them to cool until the chocolate sets. Once set, they are ready to enjoy as a delicious sweet and salty snack!
