Chocolate bar? No, coffee bar! Think chocolate, but made out of coffee beans rather than cocoa beans! This edible coffee bar made with cocoa butter looks and tastes like chocolate but contains no cocoa nibs or solids. Keep reading and learn all about this rich coffee bar goodness!
What is a coffee bar?
A coffee bar is like chocolate in many ways. It even looks like chocolate, but it’s definitely not CHOCOLATE – a coffee bar is firm and solid at room temperature, melts silky and smooth on your tongue, but tastes like coffee. And to be clear, it’s not a “mocha” bar which is made from a combination of cocoa beans and coffee beans. It’s 100% coffee beans, so unlike a chocolate bar, it’s totally a caffeine treat!
A coffee bar is a fun alternative to your morning cup of coffee. Coffee bars are made by grinding coffee beans (or instant coffee) with cocoa butter and sugar until silky smooth, then tempering it like chocolate before pouring it into a mold. Milk powder is also sometimes added to the mix for a latte version.
Coffee bars are still relatively rare to find in more grocery stores, so you may have to check out your local specialty chocolate shop or search online if you want to taste this sweet treat.
What is coffee butter?
Coffee bars are different from coffee butter, which is another new coffee creation. Coffee butter is a type of fat that’s extracted from roasted coffee beans and combined with cocoa butter. It has a rich, coffee-like aroma and flavor, but doesn’t contain coffee or cocoa solids, so it doesn’t have the same chocolatey taste that you get from a chocolate bar.
Coffee butter can be used in a variety of ways, including as a spread on toast, as a topping for pancakes or waffles, or in baking recipes. The most common way to use it nowadays is in the form of “coffee bars.”
Most coffee bars found in the market today contain about 50 mg of caffeine, which is about the same as a shot of espresso. However, they do not work in the same way.
The caffeine in a coffee bar is mixed with cacao butter. That means it is released more slowly and steadily as the bar travels from your stomach to your intestines. What you get is a long-lasting boost of energy and alertness, enough to keep you going for up to 4 hours. Remember, your day is a marathon, not a sprint. Coffee bars can help you gear up for the long haul, so check it out.
